A new BMW 5 Series is set to debut later this year, introducing an electric model to the existing sedan line. BMW has recently announced the release of M Performance parts for both the gas and electric versions of the car.
The 2024 5 Series and electric i5 sedan will premiere in October, offering two M performance packages: the Sports Package and Sports Package Pro. These options feature carbon fiber bodywork, including a front lip, decklid spoiler, and a three-piece rear diffuser. Additionally, carbon side skirts are included, and cars equipped with either package will sport black accent stripes and M Performance lettering.
BMW provides lightweight alloy wheels in two sizes: 19 and 21 inches. The largest wheels are available in black or grey, and a separate M Performance brake system offers red calipers, six-piston units in the front, and single pistons in the rear. BMW claims that the vented design of these brakes helps reduce fade and manage brake temperatures more effectively during intense driving.
Interior accents consist of carbon door sill plates and M Performance velour floor mats with synthetic leather trim. And for those who are never satisfied with the number of “M” badges on the car and its interior, the key comes with an M Performance case made with Nappa leather and a carbon fiber-effect material.
The new 5 Series will be available with a mild-hybrid gas powertrain, an electric powertrain, and eventually a plug-in hybrid. European markets will also have the option of a diesel variant. Two electric versions will be offered: the base i5 eDrive 40 with 340 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, and the performance-oriented i5 M60 xDrive with an impressive 601 horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque, capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.
Although BMW has not released specific details regarding North American M-tuned gas 5 Series models, it is reasonable to expect the introduction of at least an M5 and potentially an “M-ish” model like the M550i in the near future.
