Bombay HC grants bail to woman in 2023 MPID case, says further custody unwarranted | India News

MUMBAI: Bombay high court on Friday granted bail to Pooja Bhoir, 30, in a cheating and MPID case lodged in Dombivli against her last year.
Bhoir has four cases registered against her in Mumbai, Nagpur and Kalyan and Dombivli under Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (In Financial Establishments) Act, 1999 and in three cases she was granted bail earlier by Sessions court her lawyer Sunil Pandey informed the HC.
The advocate argued that she had no intention to deceive the informant who invested Rs 77 lakh over a period of time on her assurance that she would invest the money in the stock market to fetch 10.5 % returns. The market did not give expected returns, but Rs 12 lakh was credited to the complainant’s account, a fact suppressed by the informant, he argued before Justice N J Jamadar.
The prosecutor R M Pethe opposed her bail plea saying she had no license to operate as a stock broker or sub-broker but yet induced and duped the informant of a “huge amount’.
Justice Jamadar however noted she is a woman and investigation seems to be practically complete, with chargesheet lodged, thus her further detention is unwarranted. The HC said money was credited to the informant’s account and its nature can be verified during trial.
The HC imposed a bail bond of Rs 30000 and directed her to mark attendance at the police station every month on the first Monday for three years or till trial is complete whichever is earlier.
