Season 2 of Bridgerton, Netflix’s Regency-era drama, halts production for the second time in three days following another positive COVID test.
Bridgerton Season 2 halted production for the second time in three days.
First reported by Deadline, production on the second season of the Regency-era drama paused after a person involved with the show tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). Whether it was a cast or crew member is unknown, as Netflix declined to comment on the matter.
This is the second COVID-19 related delay for the Netflix series after a crew member tested positive three days prior. Following that first positive test result, everyone on set was tested and filming resumed after a 24-hour pause. However, with a second positive test, production on Bridgerton has halted indefinitely.
Season 2 of Bridgerton had yet to receive a release date, even without this delay. Netflix renewed Bridgerton for a third and fourth season in April 2021 before filming began on Season 2. Like the Julia Quinn novels on which the show is based, each season of Bridgerton will focus on a different member of the Bridgerton family, the first season of the Netflix adaptation following the eldest sister Daphne and her romance with the Duke of Hastings Simon Bassett. The second season will center on the family’s oldest son, Anthony Bridgerton, and his search for a Viscountess.
While the Duke of Hastings, played by Regé-Jean Page, will not be returning for the second season, Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) will reprise her role. Netflix also announced two new cast members would be joining the drama: Shelley Conn as Mary Sharma, the daughter of an Earl caught in a scandal, and Calam Lynch as Theo Sharpe, a fair-minded printer’s assistant.
It is unclear how long production on Season 2 will be delayed, or if it will affect the season’s still-unknown release date. However, the first season of Bridgerton is currently available to stream on Netflix.
