Fire and Rescue NSW said the fire broke out in a “large factory which produces white goods”.

7NEWS understands the business has been there for more than 50 years.

The owner of the petrol station next door to the factory was the one to sound the alarm and call triple-0.

“It was full of smoke … all of a sudden there was fire coming from the rooftop,” he told 7NEWS.

“It was scary.”

Meanwhile, motorists in the area are being told to prepare for lengthy delays throughout the morning.

“Canterbury Rd is closed in both directions between Fore st and Wonga St due to a building fire,” Live Traffic Sydney said.

“Follow the directions of emergency services on site or consider using an alternate route.”
