Car sales June 2024: Maruti leads with 1.39 lakh units as Hyundai sales remain flat, Tata dips 8 percent

Passenger vehicle sales experienced a modest increase of 4% in June as total passenger vehicle dispatches reached 3,40,784 units last month, marking a 3.67 percent growth compared to 3,28,710 units in June 2023. Maintaining the positive growth momentum for SUVs, the market continued to show positive growth as a whole. Maruti Suzuki leads
Maruti Suzuki India reported total sales of 1,79,228 units in June 2024. This figure includes 1,39,918 units sold domestically, 8,277 units sold to other OEMs, and 31,033 units exported. However, sales of mini-segment cars, such as the Alto and S-Presso, declined to 9,395 units from 14,054 units in June 2023. In the compact car segment, sales stood at 64,049 units, slightly down from 64,471 units in the same month last year.

On a brighter note, Maruti’s utility vehicles, including the Brezza, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, and XL6, saw a significant boost with sales of 52,373 units last month compared to 43,404 units a year earlier.
Hyundai Motor India sales remain flat
Hyundai Motor India registered total sales of 64,803 units in June 2024, comprising 50,103 units sold domestically and 14,700 units exported. In terms of domestic sales, the company’s figures remained flat as it recorded sales of 50,103, marginally up by 0.2 percent as compared to 50,001 units sold in the corresponding month last year.
HMIL also completed H1 2024 with total sales of 3,85,772 units, achieving a year-on-year growth of 5.68 percent. The new Hyundai Creta has been a significant contributor to domestic H1 sales, with 91,348 units sold, reflecting an 11 percent increase over the same period last year.
Tata Motors sees a decline in domestic sales
Tata Motors’ sales for Q1 FY 2024-25 across domestic and international markets totaled 2,29,891 vehicles, up from 2,26,245 units in Q1 FY 2023-24. The company’s sales of passenger vehicles, including electric vehicles, in the domestic market decreased by 8 percent in June, totaling 43,624 units compared to 47,359 units in the same month last year. The company’s lineup includes the Nexon, Punch, Harrier, Safari, Tiago, Altroz, and Tigor, along with popular EV models such as the Punch EV and Nexon EV.
