Cars, SUVs expected to be launched in July 2024: Nissan X-Trail, BMW 5 Series and more

In the first six months of 2024, the Indian automotive industry saw numerous unveils and launches, with several manufacturers introducing all-new products and updating existing models with next-generation versions. The month of July will witness the launch of many premium cars and SUVs. In this article, let’s take a look at cars and SUVs expected to be launched in July 2024.
1. Mercedes Benz EQA
First on the list is Mercedes-Benz EQA electric which will be launched on July 8. The EQA will be the fourth EV from Mercedes in India after EQB, EQR and EQS. The prices for the Mercedes EQA are expected to begin from Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, it competes with Volvo XC40 Recharge, C40 Recharge and BMW iX1.

The Mercedes EQA is essentially an all-electric version of the GLA SUV and the one that will be sold in India is the facelift version that was revealed globally back in August 2023. In terms of design, the overall silhouette remains the same as the GLA but it features a large grille with Mercedes’ signature star pattern and an LED light bar that runs across the grille. At the rear, it looks very similar to the EQB with slim LED taillights connected by an LED light bar and the number plate is mounted lower down on the bumper.

Moving inside, the overall dashboard layout is similar to the ICE GLA except for a few changes to make it stand out. It gets dual It features dual 10.25-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, turbine-style air-conditioning vents, ambient lighting, the latest MBUX Ui, automatic climate control, Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos, a three-spoke steering wheel and more. The EQA will be powered by a 70.5 kWh battery pack paired with a single-motor which puts out 188 BHP and 385 Nm of torque. It has a claimed range of 560 km and the battery can be charged from 10-80% in 35 minutes using a 100 kW DC fast charger.
2. BMW 5 Series LWB
The second car on the list is BMW 5 Series LWB which will be launched on July 24. The new 5 Series will directly go up against the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB and the bookings for the car are already underway. Initially, the new 5 Series LWB will be available in the 530Li M Sport variant. Talking about the design, the sedan gets a large kidney grille with contour lighting and it gets sharp LED headlamps with new twin boomerang-shaped DRLs, similar to the BMW X1. In terms of dimensions, the 5 Series LWB measures the 5 Series measures 5,175 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,520 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,105mm.

The new 5 series is built on BMW’s Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform and the 5 series shares a similar structural foundation as other BMW models which come with both electric and ICE. Feature highlights include curved twin screens for infotainment and instrument cluster, 4-zone climate control, dual tone interiors, Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system and much more.

3. Nissan X-Trail
The next model on the list is the Nissan X-Trail SUV. The Nissan X-Trail was showcased in India alongside the Qashqai and Juke back in November 2022 and finally, the company will launch the X-Trail in the Indian market soon. The new X-Trail will be bought to India via the CBU route and is expected to carry a price tag of more than Rs 40 lakh. When launched, the X-Trail will compete with Jeep Meridian, Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Skoda Kodiaq and VW Tiguan.

The X-Trail is based on Renault-Nissan’s CMF-C platform jointly developed by Nissan and Renault. Globally it’s offered with multiple powertrain options including a strong hybrid. However, India is only expected to get a single-engine option. It might get a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with 204hp and 305Nm. It might get a CVT gearbox and AWD is expected too.
4. Mini Cooper S
FThe fourthmodel on the list is 2024 Mini Cooper S which will be launched on July 24. The new Mini looks very similar to the all-electric Cooper SE. The hatch gets a hexagonal body-coloured front grille with circular LED headlights with signature DRLs. At the sides, the profile remains the same with a floating roofline and it also gets newly designed multi-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear it gets a re-designed tailgate with triangular LED taillights with the Union Jack insignia.

Inside, the dashboard layout too is very similar to the SE electric. It gets a round central OLED infotainment unit with a thin bezel and below it gets physical knobs for controlling other functions. Mini claims that this is the first round OLED touchscreen in a production vehicle and it puts out various information. Talking about the powertrain, the new Mini Cooper is expected to be offered with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which puts out 204 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque.
5. Mini Countryman Electric

Another Mini on the list is Mini Countryman Electric which will be launched on July 24. The SUV will solely be sold as an EV unlike its predecessor and shares its underpinnings with the BMW iX1. The new Countryman features an octagonal front grille with revamped headlights, tail lights and bumpers. Talking about the battery and motor, it’s expected to be offered with two options – a single-motor, front-wheel-drive version with 204hp and 250Nm, and a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version with 313hp and 494Nm. Both variants will get a 66.45kWh battery.
