Texas Longhorns legend Cat Osterman has a lot of nice things to say about freshman pitcher Teagan Kavan, who’s seemingly hoisted the team upon her back at points throughout the ongoing postseason. Osterman has even shared words with Kavan.
“I just told her that there were going to be bumps in the road and it was just a matter of how did you handle those internally,” said Osterman, according to the Austin American-Statesman. Notably, Osterman played for Texas from 2002 to 2006, minus a year she spent away for the 2004 Olympics, the Statesman reports. “And I think she’s handled it very well. We see a stoic but a very tested freshman. She’s really able to be out there and keep her composure and continue to execute her game plan. I’m just seeing game after game that she gets stronger and stronger. It’s fun to watch.”
Osterman is undoubtedly one of the sport’s most decorated athletes. In college, she earned three national player of the year awards and saw three Women’s College World Series appearances. She has also earned one gold and two silver medals as an Olympian.
“I really do think they have a shot at doing it this year. It would mean a ton… you watch this team and they play together.”
