Check your receipts now: Coles shoppers are receiving ‘apology’ refunds

Coles customers have been urged to check their receipts after the supermarket giant issued “apology” refunds to selected shoppers.

Sharing on a popular Facebook group, several shoppers revealed how they noticed that discounts had been applied to their grocery bills.

When they checked their dockets, they noticed that the word “apology” had been written alongside the refunds on the receipts.

The unexpected detail sparked confusion with one Coles shopper, who reached out on social media to find answers.

“Does anyone know the reason for this $0.47 ‘apology’ credit?” asked one on the Markdown Addicts Australia page.

Another Coles customer shared an image of her receipt, which showed a $3.54 discount.

“I got this too but mine was bigger,” she said.

One more said: “I got it too. Attendant had no idea what it was.”

A Coles spokesperson has explained that the discount was issued to some Flybuys members after a recent mix-up.

“We detected that a small number of Flybuys members did not receive the promotion they activated due to an IT issue,” the spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au.

“Flybuys has applied a Flybuys credit to any affected members’ accounts that will appear on their next receipt.

“We hope this has not caused any inconvenience to these customers.”

Hundreds of social media reacted to a post about the “apology”, providing some more light-hearted suggestions for the reason behind the discount.

“Sorry you had to pay $10 for 500g of cheese,” said one.

Another joked: “That’s your pay for using the self-checkout.”
