Chevy Blazer EV Arrives at Dealerships with Significant Price Increase

Automakers and the government hope that consumers will flock to dealerships to purchase electric vehicles (EVs). However, the reality is that EVs are still too expensive for most people. Sales have slowed down because of their high costs. Although more EV models are being released, they are unlikely to be affordable. Recently, Chevy announced the pricing for their new EV model, the Blazer EV, and it is more expensive than initially stated.

The Chevy Blazer EV was well-received when it was unveiled to the public in the summer of 2022. With a starting price of $44,995, it was expected to compete with the Ford Mustang Mach-E. However, the current prices for the Blazer EV are higher than anticipated. Chevy has started shipping the Blazer EVs to dealers from their plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. Buyers may be surprised by the increased prices.

The initial prices for the Blazer EV, $47,595 for the 2LT trim and $51,995 for the RS trim, are still listed on Chevy’s website. However, the prices have now increased to $56,715 for the 2LT AWD and $60,215 for the RS AWD. The RS RWD costs even more at $61,790. Chevy did not provide a reason for these price increases. They stated that the 2LT and RS trims available at dealerships are “launch editions” that come with additional features.

Despite the higher prices, the Blazer EV still offers some impressive standard features. The 2LT trim includes a 17.7-inch center touch screen, an 11-inch color screen display for the driver, synthetic leather seats, a comprehensive driver safety assistance suite, and an auto opening power liftgate. The RS trim comes with all these features plus additional RS-specific enhancements such as black trim, “RS” badges, self-sealing tires, heated and cooled front and rear seats, and a heads-up display.

While the prices have increased, the estimated range of the Blazer EVs remains the same. The Blazer EV 2LT with front-wheel drive is estimated to achieve 293 miles of range, while the rear-wheel drive Blazer EV RS is estimated to reach 320 miles of range. The all-wheel drive versions of both trims are EPA certified at 279 miles of range.

Chevy wants consumers to know that despite the higher prices, they remain committed to affordability. Cheaper trims of the Blazer EV will be released next year, along with a police version and a high-performance SS version. A spokesperson from Chevy stated that a more affordable option, the 2LT FWD, will be available next year. They also mentioned that the Equinox EV will be priced below the Blazer EV. Additionally, Chevy plans to launch the next-generation Chevy Bolt, further emphasizing affordability across their lineup.
