A north Brisbane school teacher will face court charged with child exploitation offences after police allegedly found illegal material at his home.

The 41-year-old teacher and sports coach, who was recently stood down from his position, was arrested during a raid on his home in Chermside.

Detectives went to the property after a tip-off and allege the teacher had been accessing the child exploitation material via an overseas website that has encrypted cloud storage.

They seized a laptop and a smartphone which allegedly had more child exploitation material stored on them.

Police are investigating who the children depicted in the material are and whether they’re linked to the teacher or live in Queensland.

“Detectives are appealing for any victims who may have had contact with the man, believed to be mostly from the north Brisbane and Ipswich areas, to come forward,” police said in a statement.

The man has been charged with three counts each of possessing child exploitation material and using a carriage service to access child abuse material.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.
