Child luring investigation ‘ongoing’ after St. Catharines man charged

A St. Catharines man is facing child luring charges after an investigation by Peel Regional Police.

Police said on Tuesday that they arrested a 62-year-old man last year in connection with a child exploitation unit investigation that began in August after an unknown social-media user had allegedly tried to lure children under the age of 16 for a sexual purpose.

Investigators said that the person allegedly used the names “Steven.Waterman,” “guyfrmont,” “guyfrmont2914,” “STC,” “Niagara,” “Niagara_1” and “twinkluvont” on multiple social-media platforms.

Steven Waterman, 62, of St. Catharines, was arrested on Nov. 23 and charged with luring a child under the age of 18, breaching a prohibition order and two counts of luring a child under the age of 16.

“In addition, upon execution of a Criminal Code search warrant, it became evident to investigators that further victims may have been contacted by Steven Waterman online,” police said in a news release.

“The investigation is currently ongoing.”
