Christie predicts challenges for Trump’s defense team in overcoming documented charges

According to fellow Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie, the new charges brought against former President and Republican nominee front-runner Donald Trump are likely to solidify the case against him.

During an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” the former New Jersey governor stated that the latest charges, which are part of a case involving Trump’s alleged attempt to withhold classified documents after leaving the White House, will only further strengthen an already seemingly strong case. Trump has been indicted on federal charges related to his purported effort to discount verified votes during the 2020 presidential election.

“It’s pretty brazen,” Christie remarked. “These guys were acting like the Corleones with no experience.”

The charges claim that Trump willingly withheld classified documents from the federal government and also deleted video footage from his Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida last year.

“You can’t deny that there was an underlying potential crime here,” he added. “This involved withholding confidential classified information from the government despite the government’s repeated requests for its return over an 18-month period.”

Although former Vice President Mike Pence has not yet been formally subpoenaed, Trump’s lawyer, John Lauro, stated on Sunday that Pence would likely be a crucial witness in the case pertaining to allegations of attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
