Art of the avant garde
More than 100 artists from all over the world are bringing their works to Art Next Expo. Aside from putting on their works for sale, the artists – who work across different mediums, such as painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media and more – will compete for the expo’s top awards, judged by a panel of professionals and academics. Keep an eye out to spot striking new works of art including Chao Harn Kae’s grotesque sculptures; Angel Hoi Kiu-hui’s paper-clip garments and Seve Favre’s pixelated, polychromatic paintings – all of which are sure to turn heads. The event will also feature three gallery exhibitions besides educational talks and discussions for art enthusiasts.

The festival opens with Tel Aviv on Fire (picture), an insightful comedy-drama examining the relationships between Israelis and Palestinians. Other gems include Fiddler: A Miracle of Miracles – a documentary about how the American musical, Fiddler on the Roof, came into existence – and Bye Bye Germany, a comedic tale of a Holocaust survivor trying to make his way to America.
