Cody Simpson celebrates huge milestone with special achievement

Australian popstar-turned-swimmer Cody Simpson has continued his good form at the Australian Short Course Championships in Sydney after he won the 100-metre butterfly event.

Simpson dominated the race and led from start to finish in a time of 50.60 as he added the butterfly win to his 100-metre freestyle victory on Thursday night.

By winning the two events, the 26-year-old captured his first national titles as a professional swimmer, as he continues his build up towards making the Australian team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“I’ve adopted an attack mentality, aiming to leave nothing in the tank and to just see what happens,” Simpson told Olympian Sarah Ryan after winning the butterfly event.

“I’m a student of the sport every single day, with my coach (Michael Bohl) and my team helping me improve in whatever area I can and there’s tonnes more I can learn and improve on.

“And I’m here to put everything I do in training into my racing.”

Meanwhile, swimming star Bronte Campbell has returned to winning ways at the Australian Short Course Championships as she sets her sights on competing at a fourth Olympic Games.

The double Olympic champ led from first stroke to the last in the 100-metres freestyle at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on Thursday night, winning in 52.39 seconds.

The five-time world champion Campbell, who will also contest the 50-metres event, outpaced runner-up Sydney Brown (54.17) and third-placed Sarah Locke (54.98).

The 29-year-old Campbell was left thanking the crowd, telling them: “I’m so proud to be here … and see this next generation come through.

“I’m just enjoying being back in this pool where I’ve had so many great memories.

“As a little kid it was never about winning Olympic gold, it was about wearing the green and gold. And the thought of going to four Games is way bigger than I could have ever dreamt.”
