While attempting to recount a dramatic rendition of what transpired, the chef was consistently interrupted by his wife Jane, and daughters Lily and Meave, who contradicted his hilarious story.
“In today’s news, a Fassnidge holiday is never really a Fassnidge holiday unless we have a little bit of drama,” his story shared to Instagram Monday night began.
“Well, today we were on a kayak, myself and my daughter, we both fell off and I couldn’t get back in.”
“So I decided to push my daughter to shore to save her because we were miles out, miles out, miles out.”
In the background both Jane and one of their daughters could be heard objecting to the claim they were miles out, yelling that in fact, the water was shallow.
“I’m telling the real story,” he told them before continuing.
“And as I pushed my daughter in because I was saving her life, we were so far away.”
“The water was knee height!” his wife said.
“It wasn’t shallow, it was deep and I was saving her life,” he objected.
“I grazed my leg on an oyster rock which split it right open.
“Even the guy at the desk vomited and then it got 10 stitches.”
Recalling the Thai hospital, the MKR judge said he was “looked after” so well.
And (the nurses) sewing, she can do socks any day she wants, but have a look at this,” he said, panning the camera to show his stitched-up knee.
“I just want to say I got no love from any female in my house.
“I had to get a taxi on my own, basically patched myself up, and that’s today’s news from Thailand.
“Anyway I’m in severe pain, but I saved my daughter in the end.”
As his family once again objected to the cheeky account of the incident he remarked, “shut up — don’t ruin the story”.
One commenter remarked that “the family dynamics are gold ❤️”.
“Thanks Jane for reporting the real story,” another said to his wife.
“Harden up princess,” joked another.
The holiday update comes after Fassnidge was confirmed as the new chef on Channel 7’s lifestyle program Better Homes and Gardens.
“Working on Better Homes and Gardens really feels like coming home,” Colin said of the new career chapter.
“I’ve been friends with (host) Johanna Griggs ever since I started at Channel 7, and the rest of the cast and I get on like a house on fire.
“I can’t wait to get out on the road and travel around this beautiful country, cooking with some of the best and freshest produce in the world.”
Fassnidge will continue to co-host Seven’s home cooking hit MKR with Manu Feildel in 2024.
