Collaboration Between Rockstar and Modders Behind GTA V and Red Dead Roleplaying Tools

Rockstar Games is collaborating with a well-known mod developer team to introduce official support for roleplay servers in their games. Announced today, Rockstar states that they are “partnering with the Cfx.re team,” the creators of the FiveM and RedM modding tools that allow players to create and play custom experiences in games like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2.

The specifics of the arrangement are not entirely clear, but Rockstar mentioned in their announcement that Cfx.re is now officially part of Rockstar Games, although they did not provide further details on how this is happening.

In a post on their official forum, Cfx.re confirms that they are now officially part of Rockstar Games and that there is an opportunity to enhance the FiveM platform. However, they mention not to expect any information about GTA 6.

Rockstar Games recently updated its game modding policy, particularly regarding roleplay servers. The new policies encourage the creation of “reasonable” experiences that expand on the games in creative ways and allow the use of mods through third-party server platforms.

However, Rockstar does not permit the creation of new games, stories, missions, or maps using their intellectual property. They also explicitly disallow any monetary gains from their games, including loot boxes and cryptocurrencies. This includes a VR mod that Rockstar did not approve of.

The modding community, especially for Grand Theft Auto V, is limitless. Platforms like FiveM have enabled intense experiences, such as a gangster roleplay where participants must carefully consider raising guns as death is permanent.
