Abu Dhabi: It was a night to forget for Cristiano Ronaldo and his Al Nassr team as they lost the Saudi Super Cup semi-final against Al Hilal 2-1. But, it was not the loss that made news for Al Nassr, instead, it was Cristiano Ronaldo elbowing his opposition that grabbed attention. Following the incident in the dying minutes of the game, Ronaldo was shown the red card and he had to leave the pitch in the 86th-minute. Ronaldo elbowed defender Al-al-Bulaihi.
Things got worse for the Portuguese star when he was seen mocking the referee while leaving the pitch.
“Ronaldo is one of the most important players in the world and is a role model for many, but in his career he is not accustomed to losing, so it is natural for him to lose his temper when he loses, as well as to lose emotional and mental focus in matches..”
‘I’m not going to deprive Ronaldo of the honour. He is still very strong. He has always been and will remain the most important player in the world. He is an example and a model,” Jesus added at the press conference.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star is currently top of the scoring charts in the league with 29 goals so far, seven ahead of Al Hilal’s Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Al Nassr are in second place in the Saudi Premier League, 12 points behind Al Hilal with seven games remaining.
Ronaldo’s defeat in the Super Cup is likely to prolong his wait for a trophy since his move to Saudi Arabia last year.
