The manufacturer plans to shift to all-electric vehicles in the long run and this EV will mark the first step towards that direction. As part of this vision, Daimler Truck targets CO2-neutral trucks and buses in Europe, Japan, and the USA by 2039, and globally by 2050.

The eCanter is slated for launch in the Indian market within the next 6 to 12 months. Globally, the company said that it is committed to the Paris Climate Protection Agreement and aims to make CO2-neutral transport a reality.
Satyakam Arya, Managing Director & CEO of Daimler India said that the launch of the all-electric eCanter in India is the first step in our strategy to decarbonize our entire product portfolio. However, he stated that the diesel ICE and CO2-neutral propulsion will coexist in the Indian market for the foreseeable future. Future offerings will cater to various utility segments, including long haul, mining, construction, and more.
DICV says that its long-term strategy is contingent on various external factors such as charging infrastructure availability, green energy access, cost parity, and customer acceptance. The company’s immediate priority with the eCanter is achieving product and service excellence, alongside customer acceptance. Furthermore, the company has already developed a BharatBenz hydrogen fuel cell concept coach in collaboration with an Indian conglomerate.
