Oliver’s win aboard Munhamek was the last of three consecutive wins to finish the meet at Ascot after earlier wins with Devine Belief and Magnificent Andy.

And just as the racing gods drew it up in the script, Oliver saved his most dramatic win of the day for last, piercing through the field and pressing the button for the final 50m of his final ride to win by half a length.

Chants of “Ollie, Ollie, Ollie!” rang out around the racetrack by fans who were there to farewell a legend.

“Dreams do come true. That was unbelievable,” he said after the race.

“I’d like to say thanks to the Perth crowd, you’ve been amazing.

Of the special moment, SEN’s Gerard Whateley said: “Ollie’s final bow is one of Australian sport’s greatest ever farewells. All his dare and skill captured in one last stunning ride.”

Tim Gossage called it “The most amazing sporting moment I’ve witnessed in Perth ever.”

Munhamek’s trainer Nick Ryan said he was “speechless”.

“Was that not the greatest fairytale end to what has been one of the best careers in racing?” he added.

“A privilege to have Ollie aboard and from barrier 14, that’s why he goes down as the best. Munhamek you champion. What a THRILL.”

From the cricket commentary box at Perth Stadium, Channel 7’s Justin Langer said watching the ride gave him “goosebumps”.

“What a legend,” Langer said.
