Debut of Powerful Hybrid Mercedes-AMG GLC Models with Up To 671 HP

Fresh after the release of the new Mercedes GLC and GLC Coupe, the German car manufacturer is now introducing the AMG-ified versions of these two SUVs. The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC43 and the 2025 Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S E Performance are the most powerful variations of the GLC thus far. The GLC43 is considered the base model, equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and an integrated starter generator that together produce 416 horsepower. Additionally, the starter generator provides an extra 13 horsepower at lower speeds. This mild-hybrid powertrain is paired with a nine-speed multi-clutch transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive. Like other AMG models, the GLC 43 features a wet start-off clutch in the Speedshift MCT gearbox, replacing a torque converter to improve low-speed operation and full-throttle response. The GLC43 also includes rear-axle steering and a standard air suspension with adaptive damping through the AMG Ride Control system. The GLC63 S E Performance, on the other hand, does not come with a V8 engine like its predecessor. Instead, it combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a rear-mounted electric motor to generate 671 hp and 752 pound-feet of torque. The turbocharged engine alone produces 469 hp and 402 lb-ft, making it the most powerful four-cylinder engine in the world. The electric motor adds an extra 201 hp. The GLC63 S E Performance can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.4 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 171 mph. Like the GLC43, the 63 model features the same nine-speed multi-clutch transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive. However, the 4Matic+ system on the 63 version is fully variable, allowing up to 100 percent of the available power to be sent to the rear wheels. In terms of appearance, both the GLC43 and GLC63 AMG models differ from their standard counterparts. They showcase a distinct grille with vertical slats, larger air intakes, and more chrome accents on the front end. The rear end of the GLC43 includes rounded twin tailpipes, while the GLC63 features a trapezoidal design. The interior of these AMG models has also been upgraded, offering standard MB-tex and microfiber seating with the option of full Nappa leather and embossed AMG logo on the front headrests. Buyers can choose to add Performance seats for a sportier feel. The MBUX system from the base GLC carries over to the AMG models, now featuring AMG-specific features. The instrument cluster, central display, and optional head-up display have special AMG graphics, and the infotainment system includes AMG Track Pace for data logging when driving on the track. The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC43 SUV will be available for sale in early 2024 in US dealerships, with no pricing information released. The Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S E Performance will be sold as a 2025 model and won’t be available in US dealerships until later in 2024. Pricing details for the GLC63 model have not been disclosed either.
