Deebo Samuel is asking 49ers fans to do the unthinkable this weekend

In his weekly appearance on the “Up and Adams” YouTube show, host Kay Adams asked Samuel for his thoughts on this weekend’s Eagles versus Cowboys game. Samuel made it clear who he is pulling for in the NFC East rivalry showdown. 

“We definitely want the Cowboys to win that game,” Samuel said Tuesday. “At the end of the day, we’re fighting for the No. 1 seed in the playoff run, hopefully get a first-round bye. I think we’re all hands on deck with the Cowboys this week.”

It is borderline sacrilege for a 49ers fan to root for the Cowboys, but the standings do back up Samuel’s point. Even after the Niners blew out the Eagles, Philly is still 10-2, and one game ahead of the 49ers, Cowboys and Lions in the race for the NFC’s top spot. It is definitely in the Niners’ best interest for the Eagles to lose another game.

Moreover, the schedule for Philly is favorable after this week in Dallas and next week in Seattle. The Eagles’ final three games are against the 4-8 Giants, the 3-10 Cardinals and the Giants a second time. Thanks to their wins over both Dallas and Philadelphia this year, the 49ers can get the No. 1 seed in the NFC if they win out and the Eagles lose one more game. 

“It was already personal before the game started,” Samuel told Adams. “42-10, I don’t think you want to see us again. It might be a little bit worse.”

Samuel also weighed in on the NFL MVP race Tuesday, saying Brock Purdy is his top choice for the award and “it ain’t even up for debate.” Adams later asked Samuel about the Eagles’ fatigue leading into Sunday after some fans noted it was Philly’s third game in a 14-day stretch. Samuel was dismissive of the idea that the schedule was a factor.

“I feel like all teams have three games in 14 days, ain’t nothing you can do about it,” Samuel said. “Ain’t nothing we can do about it because we’ve been there before as well. We had two Thursday night games before, and we also had a Monday night game. It’s about focusing and refocusing and putting your mind into positions to go out there and make plays and go out there and do whatever it takes to win for your team.”

Samuel has shown his willingness to do whatever it takes to win time and time again. If 49ers fans want Samuel to help deliver the franchise a sixth Super Bowl win, they may want to join his rooting interest for Sunday night’s Eagles-Cowboys game, too — even if it feels weird for a night.
