Design Trends Inspired by Beyoncé’s Futuristic Fashion

It’s one of the biggest concert tours in recent memory. It’s given the world several iconic moments (dancing alongside Blue Ivy! Honoring drag performers! The mute challenge!) and memes. And yes, it has inspired trends in both fashion and design.

Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour has attracted over 1.6 million attendees, and that number will continue to rise as her tour concludes in October. Online, millions of fans have created TikToks showing off their homemade outfits, designs, and more.

With an impact so profound and a reach so far, it’s no wonder that Beyoncé’s looks and futuristic fashion are trickling down to inspire the art and design world.

Here, we explore three design trends inspired by Queen Bey’s tour outfits and the Renaissance tour visuals.

Metallic Colors Are a Must

The Renaissance album artwork is a great visual to get started with. On the cover, Beyoncé wears silver jewelry while riding atop a silver horse.

The album’s music is heavily influenced by the house and disco genres, and this homage is reflected in tour promotions, such as Beyoncé’s mirrored cowgirl hat.

Perhaps inspired by these looks, mirrorball and disco ball searches on Google trended up across the summer, just as the tour began in May.

When perusing images of concert attendees, we see people clad in silver, along with other metallic colors. And the real world reflects this metallic trend too, outside of Beyoncé’s arena shows.

Fashion blogs and magazines have already stated that metallics are in this autumn. Not only silver, but gold, sequins, copper, sparkles, and other precious metals all fall into this category, which is also influenced by the Y2K aesthetic revival.

You can incorporate this shiny trend through images of people wearing metallic clothing and jewelry, of course, but there are other ways to give it a subtle nod.

Metallic and disco ball-textured backgrounds are trendy visual real estate to host your logo on. Metallic textiles, makeup, and mirrors can also offer a subtle, reflective touch to images.

Afrofuturism and Futuristic Fashion Will Inspire You

Throughout her career, Beyoncé’s music has had themes of bright futures for Black people—especially Black women—in America and around the world. The songs Freedom and Formation are anthems for Afrofuturism.

Her work expresses notions of identity, agency, and freedom through creativity and activism, envisioning liberated futures for Black life. In Beyoncé’s world, the future is bright for everyone.

As her work is progressive and future-focused, it’s no wonder that Renaissance’s aesthetics have a bold and beautiful outlook, as well. These looks are an embodiment of escapism and self expression.

Onstage and in the crowd, the tour has inspired monochromatic, shimmering, brightly colored garb that takes on unusual shapes and patterns. Some of the performers’ monochromatic color palettes include royal blues, magentas, bold reds, neon greens, bright whites, blacks, pastel pinks, gold, and silver (of course).

Set pieces and props are sci-fi inspired, with slick metallics and bold colors commanding attention toward the stage.

All this calls to mind the maximalist aesthetic that’s popular nowadays. Everything is over-the-top and totally unique . . . and we can’t get enough of it.

When searching for images inspired by this futuristic take on fashion and stagecraft, look up monochromatic photos, neon designs, bold shapes, shimmery overlays, and even Barbie-inspired pink imagery.

Go for Holographic Images and Glitch Effects

What’s a cyberpunk-focused fate without a few glitches in the mix? The Renaissance tour’s onstage effects are a feast for the eyes.

Ominous glitch effects, massive onscreen text, and holographic artwork complement the work performers put in each night.

These effects call to mind the cyberpunk trend, which now seems like an eternally-beloved aesthetic in film, design, and fashion. You can incorporate these looks into your work through both bold and subtle touches.

Of course, glitch effects lend themselves very well to videos and audio clips, but you can find glitchy images, as well. Holographic backgrounds bring a metallic, dreamy feel to graphics.

Cyberpunk-inspired fonts and fantastical settings can bring Renaissance-inspired creativity to your projects.
