NEW DELHI: Following Mumbai’s triumph in clinching their 42nd Ranji Trophy title, all-rounder Shardul Thakur is gearing up for a new challenge as he prepares to don the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) jersey in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Thakur, who played a pivotal role in Mumbai’s Ranji success, expressed eagerness to learn from the legendary MS Dhoni as he embarks on his IPL journey with CSK.
The 17th edition of the IPL is set to kick off on March 22, with defending champions Chennai Super Kings slated to lock horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore in a highly anticipated encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Thakur, who returns to the franchise that played a significant role in shaping his cricketing career, spoke to ANI about his aspirations for the IPL season ahead. “Dhoni sahab is there, he is one of the greatest cricketers ever in the world. I will play under him again and I have played under him before, so I will try to learn a lot of things and how he gets performance out of players,” remarked the Mumbai and India all-rounder.
Reflecting on Mumbai’s Ranji triumph, Thakur applauded the performance of spin-bowling all-rounder Tanush Kotian, who played a crucial role with both bat and ball throughout the tournament. Kotian’s stellar contributions earned him the prestigious ‘Player of the Tournament’ award.
In five Ranji matches this season, Thakur showcased his all-round prowess by scoring 255 runs and claiming 16 wickets, including a memorable century against Tamil Nadu in the semifinal. Thakur’s stellar performances in big matches have earned him recognition both domestically and on the international stage.
Mumbai’s dominant display in the Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha saw them clinch victory by 169 runs. With notable contributions from Musheer Khan, Shreyas Iyer, and Rahane, Mumbai asserted their dominance throughout the match, eventually emerging triumphant.
