Disney has revealed an extraordinary sculpture to commemorate its 100th anniversary. “The Structural Sorcerer” is based on original artwork by the renowned designer Virgil Abloh for CHAOS magazine, created for Mickey Mouse’s 90th anniversary prior to his passing in 2021.
The sculpture was designed by ALASKA ALASKA, the design firm of Virgil Abloh Securities, at the Royal College of Art in Battersea, London.
It marks the beginning of Create 100, a worldwide celebration of creativity, honoring a century of storytelling.
Throughout the summer, more artworks, items, and experiences, along with their accompanying stories, will be revealed, all intended to be auctioned for the benefit of the Make-A-Wish foundation.
Create 100 features a variety of contributions, ranging from music elements to comic books, and recreations of iconic movie props, among others.
Contributors include Beyoncé, French fashion designer Christian Louboutin, Giovanna Engelbert, the global creative director for Swarovski, Lang Lang, a virtuoso pianist from China, fashion pioneer Tommy Hilfiger, and the celebrated Brazilian artist Vik Muniz.
Tasia Filippatos, representing the entertainment giant, stated: “Disney’s timeless stories and characters have left an unforgettable impact on popular culture worldwide, transcending boundaries, industries, and generations.
“We cannot think of a better way to honor 100 years of Disney storytelling than through collaboration with this exceptional group of visionaries in support of Make-A-Wish.”
