It was just the thing to lift some spirits after rain turned Black Rock Desert into “paste.”
People began dancing in the mud, playing music and screaming with joy. Bars were packed and techno music was blaring all around the playa, according to Ashley Harrell, who is on the (muddy) ground at Burning Man.
Burners were making the most of it after it was announced about noon Saturday that access to Burning Man has been closed for the remainder of the event, and driving is prohibited within Black Rock City except for emergency vehicles.

With rain in the forecast through Sunday, Burners were being told to conserve resources.
“If you are in BRC, conserve food and water, shelter in a warm space,” warned festival organizers according to the Reno Gazette Journal. The news site reported that 73,000 people (a larger population than the city of Santa Cruz) are currently at the festival.
SFGATE staffers Ashley Harrell and Gabe Legman contributed to this report.
