It is never a good sight to see two films clashing it out at the same time but with only 52 weeks in a year, clashes are bound to happen. And this time it is a clash between Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani’s first time collaboration Dunki with Prabhas and Prashanth Neel’s Salaar: Part 1- Ceasefire. Though Dunki was supposed to be a solo Christmas release, Salaar ended up joining it as it missed its original date because of post production issues.

‘We don’t want things to be ugly,’ says ‘Salaar’ producer Vijay Kirgandur as he opens up on box office clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’

All this while both the films were battling it out in the US markets where both the films had begun their advance booking much before than in India, Salaar definitely has a major lead over Dunki there selling tickets worth more than US $924,000 just for its premiere day whereas Dunki has just crossed US $ 181000. But the battle has now come home and the stakes are getting higher with each passing day. In fact King Khan also recently had a meet and greet with the distributors and exhibitors and asked them to be fair in their show programming.
Going by the current numbers, Dunki has a slight edge over Salaar. As per Sacnilk, Dunki has sold about 1,44,830 tickets and its gross sales till now has reached Rs 4.46 crore. Now with Salaar, the film has sold 1,53, 705 tickets, 8875 tickets more than SRK starrer but it has amassed about Rs 3.58 crore- full Rs 88 lakhs less. Now this can also stem from the fact that ticket prices in South of India are capped.
While SRK was in Dubai to promote Dunki last night, the makers of Salaar are gearing up to launch the second trailer of the film today, just 3 days before the release of the film. It would be interesting to see how the journey for both the films from here on.
