Dyson unveils its smartest hairdryer ever, the Nural. Best Picks reveals why you need to invest

When Dyson first released the Supersonic hairdryer way back in 2016, the game was changed for drying our hair — forever.

And now, the pioneering British brand has re-invented the wheel again, with today’s launch of a new hairdryer that promises to be “Dyson’s most intelligent hairdryer for healthier scalp and hair”.

The Supersonic Nural ($749) takes everything we know and love about the regular Supersonic hairdryer and supercharges it.

Clever intuitive sensor technology works to adjust the temperature of the hairdryer, depending on how close it is to your scalp.

This means the hairdryer not only gives you a salon blow-dry from home, but it also works to protect your scalp health and enhance your natural shine at the same time.

Obviously, at $749, the gadget is pricey.

But what the Supersonic Nural offers in comparison to other hairdryers is unrivalled in the market.

“If you’re able to limit heat damage, you can get a healthier scalp and healthier hair,” James Dyson explained.

Our new Supersonic Nural has a time of flight sensor which recognises your head and reduces the heat as it gets close to your hair, preventing heat damage to both your scalp and your hair.”

The clever “Scalp Protect Mode” is the feature you need to activate in order to put this to the test.

The sensors automatically reduce when they get near your scalp.

The hairdryer also comes with a few new and improved attachments.

They include the flyaway attachment, gentle air attachment, styling concentrator, wave+curl diffuser and wide-tooth comb, along with a presentation case and instruction manual.

Alongside this, there is a “pause detect” — which helps to make styling your locks easier — and a “cool shot” button that will help to set your hairstyle in place.

Having seen the Supersonic Nural in action at a briefing, I can confirm the different modes look revolutionary for looking after your hair.

That’s particularly if you struggle with dry or unruly locks, like myself.

The new hairdryer comes with five attachments in the box, all of which look handy for different styles of hair.

But the standout feature is the “Scalp Protect Mode”.

When in “Scalp Protect Mode”, this feature ensures that the LED light colour will automatically change between cool blue or yellow (low heat), to orange (medium heat) and red (high heat), depending on the distance the machine is from the head.

The hairdryer is also smart, insofar as it adapts to a user’s go-to styling mode — remembering the last-used heat and airflow settings for each styling attachment, and automatically applying them the next time the device is in use.

“The new Supersonic Nural hairdryer is a game changer for anyone’s daily routine,” one shopper wrote.

“So quick to dry and easy to operate like its original version but with an upgraded PLUS — scalp health.

The Scalp Protect Mode is an intelligent heat control technology preventing extreme heat damage.

“Easily my favourite feature, the heat automatically reduces as the hairdryer gets closer to my scalp when turned on.

“Furthermore, it can detect if the hairdryer was set down for a while. The heater deactivates, air flow decreases and significantly reduces noise. Magic!

“The Supersonic Nural hairdryer is definitely a product that helps save time without compromising on quality.”

Another added: “Amazing product. Super impressed”.
