East Delhi Riders cruised to a seven-wicket win over South Delhi Superstarz, chasing 192 with 13 balls to spare in the Adani Delhi Premier League T20.
New Delhi: The East Delhi Riders delivered a commanding performance to defeat South Delhi Superstarz by seven wickets in their ongoing Adani Delhi Premier League T20 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday. A stellar start from their openers and solid partnerships down the order helped them chase down a challenging target of 192 with 13 balls to spare.
East Delhi Riders began their chase with purpose, as openers Anuj Rawat and Sujal Singh launched an aggressive assault on the South Delhi Superstarz bowlers. The pair found the boundaries with ease and propelled their team to 86/0 by the end of the powerplay. Rawat’s promising innings came to an end when Ayush Badoni dismissed him for 34, but Sujal Singh carried on, smashing a half-century off just 19 balls. His knock of 50 included seven boundaries and three sixes before he was eventually dismissed by Digvesh Tripathi.
Despite losing both openers, East Delhi Riders remained in control. Captain Himmat Singh contributed a steady 26, and later Hardik Sharma (38 off 24) and Samarth Seth (24 off 20) formed a crucial partnership of 50 runs from 34 balls. This stand ensured East Delhi Riders comfortably reached their target, finishing at 193/3 with 13 balls remaining.
Earlier, South Delhi Superstarz, after being put in to bat by East Delhi Riders, managed to post 191/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Their innings began shakily when Sarthak Ray fell early for just two runs, dismissed by Simarjeet Singh. However, Captain Ayush Badoni and Priyansh Arya steadied the ship with a 67-run partnership from 36 balls. Badoni’s quickfire 32 off 20 balls, including two boundaries and three sixes, provided momentum at the top of the order, while Priyansh continued his fine form, bringing up his fifty from 30 balls.
The Riders bounced back in the middle overs as Mayank Rawat dismissed Badoni, followed by the wicket of Priyansh soon after his milestone. Rawat’s double strike, along with sharp bowling from Harsh Tyagi, shifted the game in East Delhi’s favor. From a solid 108/3, South Delhi Superstarz faltered in the later stages, losing wickets at regular intervals and struggling to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Late contributions from Dhruv Singh and Sumit Mathur added some much-needed runs, but the damage was already done as South Delhi ended their innings at 191/7. For the Riders, Mayank Rawat and Harsh Tyagi were standout performers with the ball, each claiming two wickets. Simarjeet Singh and Himanshu Chauhan also chipped in with a wicket apiece, ensuring a comprehensive performance by the Riders.
With this victory, East Delhi Riders registered their first win of the season and will look to build momentum as they prepare for their next match against Central Delhi Kings on Friday.
