Elon Musk stated on Friday that his new artificial intelligence company, xAI, will focus on “understanding the universe.”
During a lengthy Twitter Spaces audio chat, Musk discussed his vision for xAI, touching on topics such as Earth’s evolution and the vulnerability of civilization.
Musk jokingly referred to xAI’s mission statement as “what the hell is really going on?” as it seeks to deepen its comprehension of the universe.
Musk announced the formation of xAI on Wednesday while accusing OpenAI and Google of developing AI technology without taking human risks into consideration.
OpenAI and Google did not respond to requests for comment.
The goal of xAI is to build a “good AGI” in contrast to Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI. AGI refers to artificial general intelligence capable of problem-solving like a human.
During the Spaces session, which started later due to Twitter’s need to revise its algorithm and promote the chat to more users, Musk mentioned that xAI would collaborate closely with his other companies, Twitter and Tesla.
The company plans to use public tweets to train its AI models and may also collaborate with Tesla on AI software.
Musk believes that this partnership would be mutually beneficial and could expedite Tesla’s progress in self-driving capabilities.
Musk also accused all AI companies of illegally utilizing Twitter data to train their models.
As an advocate for regulations in AI, Musk has been pushing for meetings with White House officials and has emphasized the importance of AI regulation in recent discussions with top government officials in China.
