ESPN commentator Shaka Hislop’s live TV collapse shocks viewers with terrifying scenes

ESPN commentator Shaka Hislop is recovering after collapsing while on air during AC Milan’s friendly with Real Madrid at the Rose Bowl in California on Sunday night.

Hislop, a former goalkeeper in the English Premier League, was speaking pre-match with co-host Dan Thomas when he suddenly lost his balance and started swaying.

The 54-year-old then fell face first into Thomas before collapsing on the ground. Thomas can be seen calling for medical staff before the broadcast cut to a commercial.

Shortly after, Thomas tweeted that Hislop was conscious and getting looked after by the medics.

The match went ahead and at half-time, Thomas provided another update.

“As it stands, it’s good news. He’s conscious and talking,” Thomas said.

“I think he’s a little embarrassed about it all. He’s apologised profusely, not a man who likes people to make a fuss of him.

“Far too early to make any sort of diagnosis but the important thing is Shaka is conscious.

“We spoke to his family as well. As you can imagine, seeing that happen live, there can’t be many more things that can scare you amongst a family, but we spoke to his wife and things are looking OK.”

Hislop played professionally for 15 years and featured twice for Trinidad and Tobago at the 2006 World Cup.

He played for Premier League sides Newcastle, West Ham and Portsmouth before finishing his career in the United States with FC Dallas.

Hislop joined ESPN as an analyst in 2008 and is a regular contributor for ESPN FC.
