KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Tuesday night, the Kansas City skyline turned into colors of purple and red, celebrating the news of the Chiefs being the center of a Hallmark Christmas movie.
Hallmark movie lovers will be getting a taste of Chiefs Kingdom with a new Christmas movie: “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs love story.”
“Big Chiefs fan, love the Chiefs, let’s talk about it,” Breanne Lopez said.
“Huge Chiefs fan, season ticket holder of course,” Eddie Russell said.
It’s a Chiefs love story, but not exactly the one you’re thinking of.
“I know the women in my life love to watch Taylor Swift,” Russell said.
“Is Travis Kelce or Taylor Swift starring in the movie?” Lopez asked.
The short answer is no.
The movie will center around a woman played by actress Hunter King and her want to get her family to win a fan of the year contest.
But that’s in the hands of the director of fans engagement, played by Tyler Hynes.
As they spend time together, things take a turn when a lucky Chiefs hat belonging to her grandfather, played by Ed Begley Jr., disappears.
It will be filmed in Kansas City, Missouri locations and Arrowhead Stadium.
“Hey, I am all for it, my family is excited,” Russell said. “I mean, Christmas in Kansas City, Hallmark in Kansas City, the Chiefs, let’s go!”
“Anything we can be doing to celebrate the community to bring awareness to the community and all the fabulous things that are happening here I’m for it,” Lopez added.
Surrounding cities are also thrilled about the news with the city of Independence sharing on its social media last year’s “Falling for Football” shot in their town, inspired a feature length movie.
But you’ll have to wait until Christmas time to spot the different landmarks and businesses featured on screen.
Tuesday, Hallmark Media, NFL, Skydance Sports and the Kansas City Chiefs are teaming up for the production which begins next month.
In a statement, Hallmark’s Chief Brand Officer Darren Abbott said in park “With Hallmark and the Kansas City Chiefs both homegrown, rooted in values, tradition and community, there is a special alchemy between these two iconic organizations.”
Chiefs President Mark Donovan said in the release “This partnership unites two passionate fanbases and gives us an opportunity to show Chiefs Kingdom’s energy and tradition on one of the most-watched channels during the holiday season.”
