Electronic Arts is giving gamers a look at its new HyperMotion technology in the first official trailer for FIFA 22, which arrives this fall.
PlayStation gave gamers a sneak peek at Electronic Arts’ new HyperMotion technology in the trailer for FIFA 22, which releases this fall.
PlayStation debuted the trailer on its official Twitter account alongside a caption that reads, “FIFA 22 introduces HyperMotion — groundbreaking new gameplay technology that elevates every moment on the pitch. FIFA 22 comes to PS4 and PS5 on October 1.”
The nearly two-minute-long trailer combines footage from an actual soccer match with footage from the game to demonstrate its realistic graphics and animations.
“FIFA 22 offers millions of fans around the world a chance to engage with the sport they love in an unprecedented way,” Nick Wlodyka, General Manager of EA Sports FIFA, said in a press release. “Each player experiences FIFA in their own way but on-pitch gameplay is the unifying constant, so we’re excited to offer deep innovation there. HyperMotion elevates that even further on next-gen consoles and Stadia and completely changes the feel of the game.”
FIFA 22 will be completely powered by the new technology and will combine “advanced 11×11 Match Capture and proprietary machine learning technology to deliver the most realistic, fluid, and responsive experience” for PlayStation 5. The new HyperMotion technology also enabled EA to incorporate motion capture of 22 professional athletes performing at high-intensity speeds for the very first time.
Additionally, Electronic Arts promises that an algorithm built into the HyperMotion tech “learns from more than 8.7 million frames of advanced match capture, then writes new animations in real-time to create organic football movement across a variety of interactions on the pitch.” In practice, this means HyperMotion has the ability to transform any and all shots, passes or crosses made by players on the field.
The 2022 edition of the game will also feature Paris Saint-Germain striker and global icon Kylian Mbappé on the cover for the second consecutive year. This means Mbappé joins a shortlist of back-to-back cover stars that includes Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. More information on the game is expected to be revealed during EA Play Live this July.
Developed by EA Vancouver and EA Romania, FIFA 22 will available worldwide on Oct. 1 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The FIFA 22 Legacy Edition will also be available on Nintendo Switch. HyperMotion technology is only available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Stadia.
