In the wake of the social media war between Shah Rukh Khan’s fans and Prabhas’ fans, director Prashanth Neel has stepped in to address the perceived rivalry and call for a more respectful narrative.
Addressing the ‘Dunki vs Salaar‘ fan wars that have turned sour, Neel emphasized that the box office clash was in no way a cinematic war but rather a fight for survival.’Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’, featuring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, and ‘Dunki’, directed by Rajkumar Hirani with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role, hit the big screens over the extended Christmas weekend, leading to fans raising all sorts of accusations about the other.
Neel expressed his concerns about the negative impact of such clashes and said in an interview with Pinkvilla, “This is what happens in cinema. You root for your heroes, and the emotions get the better of you.”While admitting that while this box office clash may be an all-out battle between fan clubs, he said both team Salaar and Dunki weren’t ‘trying to compete’ with each other in any way. “We are both trying to survive together,” he said.
He also acknowledged that the clash was getting nasty between fans and urged them to show both SRK and Prabhas some respect. “Both the stars are huge in Indian cinema and they deserve all the respect that they have accumulated over the years. The whole environment is not good for the cinema also,” he told the portal.
