Fitbit’s been undergoing significant changes in the past year, and it’s set to continue. The Google-owned app is getting a complete redesign this fall, and some Fitbit users may receive an invitation to try the beta version today.
Fitbit is reorganizing its data presentation, dividing the app into three tabs: Today, Coach, and You. The Today tab remains similar, but the main metrics can be customized to focus on specific areas such as sleep, steps, mindfulness, Zone Minutes, or heart health. Fitbit also promises improved consistency in health trend representation.
The Coach tab will contain curated workouts and mindfulness sessions, some free and some exclusive to Fitbit Premium subscribers. It will also feature filters for easier class sorting based on time, required equipment, etc.
The You tab allows users to adjust personal settings like daily steps, bedtime, active zone minutes, and view redesigned achievement badges. It may also have social features for managing community connections, though specifics are unclear following the discontinuation of Challenges.
Logging steps, exercise, and water intake will be easier on Fitbit’s redesigned app, even without a Fitbit device. The app’s appearance has been refreshed with a new color palette, updated photography, icons, and illustrations, aligning with Google’s Material Design standards. The redesign reflects Google’s ownership of Fitbit.
Google’s recent actions suggest groundwork for the upcoming Pixel Watch 2, which is expected to launch alongside the Pixel 8. More information on the smartwatch is yet to be revealed, but rumors suggest its features will include a continuous electrodermal activity sensor and Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Plus platform. Fitbit’s integration with Google and the redesign indicate a commitment to wearables and suggests they won’t be discontinued in the near future.
