Five big changes in the Guerrilla 450 over Himalayan 450

Royal Enfield recently launched the much anticipated Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 in the Indian market. The new Guerrilla 450 is offered in three variants – Analogue – 2.39 lakh, Dash – 2.49 lakh and Flash – 2.54 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). The new motorcycle is based on the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and has many similarities with it. In this article, let’s look at the top five changes in the Guerrilla 450 over the Himalayan 450.
Engine and dimensions
The Guerrilla and the Himalayan are powered by the same liquid-cooled 452 CC single-cylinder, DOHC engine which puts out 40.02 PS @ 8000 RPM and 40 NM torque @ 550 RPM.It comes paired with a speed gearbox and slip and assist clutch. The engine remains unchanged mechanically, but the final drive has been altered with a reduction of two teeth. The Guerrilla runs a 45-teeth rear sprocket, whereas the Himalayan 450 runs a 47-teeth unit.

In terms of dimensions, the Guerrilla measures 2090 mm in length, 833 mm in width, 1125 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 1440 mm. The bike has a seat height of 780 mm, a fuel tank capacity of 11 litres and tips the scale at 186 kg (with fuel and oil). The Himalayan measures 2255 mm in length, 852 mm in width, 1316 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 1510 mm. The ADV has a seat height of 825 mm, which can be increased to 845mm. The fuel tank capacity of 17 litres and tips the scale at 196 kg (with fuel and oil).

Design changes
The design is the first obvious change between the Guerrilla 450 and the Himalayan. The Himalayan 450 features a rugged ADV design whereas the Guerrilla 450 features a modern-retro roadster theme design with compact bodywork. The Guerrilla 450 carries over the tail section, centre panel, and exhaust muffler from the Himalayan but the fuel tank shape is more flowing and also has a smaller capacity. For reference, the Himalayan has 17 litres whereas the Guerrilla gets 12 litres.

Ergonomics
The Ergonomics between the two motorcycles are also different. The Guerrilla 450 offers slightly sportier ergonomics whereas the Himalayan offers a relaxed, touring-centric riding posture. The handlebar in the Guerrilla is wide and the footpegs are slightly rear-set. The seat height too is lower (780mm) compared to the Himalayan. The Guerrilla features a single seat with a stepped layout whereas the Himalayan gets a two-piece seat.

Hardware
As mentioned previously, the Guerrilla is based on the same platform Himalayan 450. However, the Guerrilla uses a few different hardware bits and also gets a different rear sub-frame. The Guerrilla gets a 43 mm telescopic front forks with 140 mm travel and a mono-shock setup at the rear with 150 mm travel. The Himalayan uses USD forks up front and mono shock at the rear. However, the suspension travel stands at 200mm at the front and rear.

Braking and tyres
Talking about the tyres, the Himalayan rides on 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked wheels shod to tubed tyres. The Guerrilla 450 gets 17-inch alloy wheels with 120/70 section tyres at the front and 160/60 section at the rear. Guerrilla’s tyres are also the widest in its segment. Braking duties in the Guerrilla are taken care of by a 310 mm ventilated disc with a double-piston calliper and at the rear, it gets a 270 mm ventilated disc with a single-piston calliper. The Himalayan uses a 320mm ventilated disc with a double piston calliper and at the rear, it gets the same a 270mm disc. Both motorcycles also get dual-channel ABS as standard.
