Homegrown e-commerce giant Flipkart has announced that it will create more than 1 lakh direct and indirect jobs in its supply chain. These jobs will be created in fulfilment and sortation centres, and delivery hubs ahead of Flipkart’s 10th edition of the Big Billion Days sale.
“In the run-up to the festive season, Flipkart is looking at hiring and creating lakhs of seasonal jobs across its pan India supply chain to cater to customer demand during the festive season. The foundation of Flipkart’s supply chain excellence lies in its diverse and extensive workforce,” the company said.
Training for seasonal jobs
According to the company, these seasonal jobs include local kirana delivery partners, women, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and others.
Flipkart said that it will undertake skilling initiatives through its training programs for the workforce that joins the supply chain, which also helps significantly boost local employment. The people will be trained to handle Hand-Held Devices, PoS machines, scanners, various mobile applications, and more.
“This year, we are creating over a lakh new job opportunities in our supply chain while also investing in skilling initiatives to deliver an elevated customer experience as we strengthen our footprint across the country,” said Hemant Badri, senior vice president and head of supply chain, customer experience, and ReCommerce at Flipkart Group.
Badri added that the company plans to deliver more than 40% of shipments through our Kirana delivery program. Flipkart usually announces the Big Billion Day sale during the festive season in India. Last year, Flipkart’s Big Billion Days Sale 2022 started from September 23 through September 30.
This year, Flipkart scaled its supply chain with distribution hubs and large-scale fulfilment centres to strengthen its reach in tier-III cities and beyond. It added over 19 lakh square feet of space across Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telangana and many more states, the company said.
