Ford Mustang GTD: Ford Mustang GTD roars to life with 811 hp: Most powerful Mustang ever

Ford has taken the wraps off the Mustang GTD, touted as the American marque’s most powerful road car ever. The production is expected to begin from late 2024 in limited numbers while the first lot will be rolled out in 2025, starting from North America.
The OEM has been vocal about targeting a sub-7 minute Nurburgring lap time – a feat that will place it amongst the likes of European supercars – one such being the Porsche 911 GT2 RS. It is interesting to note that this car is based on the GT3 racing car which is set to take part in Le Mans in 2024. The duo was designed and developed as part of the partnership between Ford and Multimatic.
Under the hood, the GTD gets a revamped Shelby GT500-sourced 5.2-litre, supercharged V8 mill that produces 811 hp, making it more powerful than even the former. It will also sport a 8-speed dual-clutch rear transaxle, the reason that it will have 50/50 weight distribution now.

The GTD is also equipped with a number of performance-enhancing features, including a dry-sump lubrication system, a titanium active-valve exhaust system, and a carbonfibre body.
The suspension duties are carried by a semi-active system, which also enables it to lower the height by 40mm in Track Mode by using a button. By compromising the boot, Ford has equipped the GTD with a transaxle cooling system along with the suspension control system at the rear.
In addition to the performance upgrades, the Mustang GTD also features a number of styling changes that give it a more aggressive look. These changes include a new front fascia with a larger grille, a wider body, and a rear spoiler.
With powerful performance comes a hefty price tag and the GTD, upon launch, can be expected to be priced around $3,00,000.
