A former inmate has revealed how she survived incarceration with “jail hacks” that she still uses today.
Tina Tsakonas, from the US, has been sober for seven years and now uses social media to “recover out loud”, helping support others who are also on the road to recovery.

The ex-convict turned content creator, who has more than 1.3 million followers, says many common household items have more than one purpose – and she used some to relieve uncomfortable symptoms while in prison.
“Mustard for heartburn always,” Tsakonas says, as she opens a single serve of mustard and consumes the packet.
The recovering drug addict goes on to claim she uses conditioner to “smell good”, deodorant for razor burn and toothpaste to clean her shoes.
She also reveals how she uses a razor to trim split ends from her hair.
Her 13-second video has attracted more than 200,000 likes – and hundreds of comments about the little-known hacks.
“As a poor person, your hacks are actually a blessing for me,” someone wrote.
“My grandma has always told me mustard for heartburn,” another supported.
“The toothpaste on shoes works so well,” one commented.
Tsakonas’ ‘jail hacks’ were so well received that she has since created another video.
In her latest upload, she describes the difficulty of shaving her underarms while incarcerated.
She says many inmates remove a single string from their shirt or sock to simply ‘thread’ the hair off.
Demonstrating how to wind the string around her hand, she goes on to explain the thread is used to wrap around the unwanted body hairs to pluck them out.
