The 2023 Formula One season was Red Bull’s most dominant year in F1 yet. The Milton Keynes based constructor managed to win all but one Grand Prix races held in the 2023 season, with poster boy Max Verstappen going on to be crowned the F1 world champion for the third time in a row. Let’s take a look at the Formula 1 records that Max Verstappen broke in 2023 –
- Most wins: With 19 wins this year, Verstappen set a new record for most wins in a season, breaking the previous record of 15, also set by him in the preceding year.
- Most podiums: The Red Bull driver was on podium 21 times this season, which beat his previous record of 18 podiums from 2021.
- Most consecutive wins: With 10 wins in a row, Verstappen broke Vettel’s 2013 record of 9 consecutive wins.
- Most wins from pole: Verstappen won 12 races starting from the pole position in 2023, three more than the previous record of 9 wins from pole held by Nigel Mansell (1992) and Sebastian Vettel (2011).
- Most points: Max Verstappen scored a whopping 575 points this year, 121 points more than the previous record of 454 points from the previous year, also set by the Dutch driver.
- Most hat-tricks (pole, win, fastest lap): The Red Bull driver scored a hat-trick on six different occasions in 2023. The previous record of five hat-tricks was held by Alberto Ascari (1952) and Michael Schumacher (2004).
- Biggest championship winning margin: Max Verstappen finished 2023 with a gap of 290 points from the second placed Sergio Perez who scored 285 points. This means that the Dutch racing driver technically could’ve won the championship twice with his point tally of 575.
- Most laps led: Vettel’s record of 739 laps led in 2011 was shattered by Verstappen, after leading 1,003 laps this year! He also became the first driver to lead over 1,000 laps in a season in Formula 1.
- Highest % laps led: Verstappen led 75.7% of all laps this year, setting a new record. The previous record of 71.5% was held by Jim Clark since 1963.
- Most sprint wins: Max won four out of the six sprint races held this season.
Other records broken by Max Verstappen in 2023 include most consecutive races as championship leader, most consecutive points scored, most consecutive top two finishes, most pit stops by the winning driver in one race, only driver to win thrice in one country (United States), most consecutive wins from pole, and a few more.
