Fortnite fans are counting down to the release of this season’s biggest update. In a pleasant and unexpected surprise, Epic Games has announced plans to release a brand new weekend update. Fortnite update 30.20 has a June 22 release date on PS5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC and Android. With the next update adding a new game mode called Fortnite OG Reload, Epic is planning to release the update alongside a period of extended server downtime. Fortnite servers will be taken offline for maintenance at 6am BST UK time on Saturday morning. Matchmaking will be disabled at around 5.30am, with servers expected to come back online at around 10am BST.
The news was announced by Epic Games on X, alongside information about new tournament times.
“Downtime for v30.20 begins at 1 AM ET with matchmaking ending shortly beforehand,” reads an Epic Games post.
“Due to the downtime, we’ve made the following tournament schedule changes: Earlier start times for OCE and Asia Ranked Cups & Ranked Cup Solo Zero Build. Delayed OCE FNCS Major 3 Open Qualifier 2 start time by one hour.”
As for Fortnite OG Reload, the upcoming game mode brings back a ton of classic locations from Chapter 1.
As you can see from the teaser trailer below, this includes Tilted Towers, Pleasant Park, Retail Row, Lil’ Loot Lake, Sandy Sheets and Lazy Laps.
Judging by the teaser, the OG Reload battleground is smaller than the current map, which should result in faster-paced games, perhaps with fewer participants.
Fans will find out for sure when the full Fortnite Reload trailer drops at 5am BST UK time on June 21. The trailer is embded further down the page, so keep checking back to watch in full.
In addition to the launch of Fortnite Reload, the new update is expected to contain files for the upocoming summer event.
The annual summer event typically launches in time for the July 4 celebrations in the US.
It adds limited-time items like fireworks, flare guns and ice cream cones, all the while adding new POIs to explore.
There’s usually an exclusive set of challenges, complete with a set of bonus rewards separate to the Battle Pass.
Speaking of the Battle Pass, Fortnite update 30.20 is expected to add Magneto to the Battle Pass, complete with a new set of challenges.
New items are tipped to include either a Heavy Sniper or Minigun, while new skins are likely to include characters from Pirates of the Caribbean.
Needless to say, update 30.20 will also make a selection of bug fixes and gameplay tweaks, which you can see below.
