Four people injured in lightning strike near Sydney Opera House

Four people have been injured in a lightning strike near the Sydney Opera House.

The group was standing underneath a tree near the entrance to the Botanic Gardens of Sydney about 12.45pm on Monday when it was struck by lightning.

No information about their injuries is yet available, but all four have been rushed to hospital.

A man in his late teens and a woman in her 20s have been taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

A man and woman aged in their 30s have been taken to St Vincent’s Hospital. Both are in a stable condition with lightning-related injuries.

Wild weather bashes Sydney

Sydney was battered by rain on Monday, with thunderstorms causing mass power outages.

There are currently 20 unplanned outages reported on AusGrid, with 11,306 sites affected.

Sydney is set to endure a wet week, with showers forecast into the weekend.

A severe thunderstorm is predicted to continue for the rest of Monday, with up to 20mm forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology.

Up to 20km winds are also predicted into the evening.

The Bureau predicts the chance of thunderstorms through to Saturday, with a slight chance of rain on Sunday.
