India has already earmarked a huge sum of money to build a sporting infrastructure in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in a bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games.
New Delhi: France President Emmanuel Macron has backed India in hosting the 2036 Summer Olympic Games. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially announced last year its intention to bid for the 2036 Olympics and Paralympics by calling it a ‘dream for 140 crore countrymen’. The Union Government and the State Government of Gujarat have earmarked Rs 6000 crore on several projects to build sports infrastructure in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in a bid to prepare the twin cities for the bid to host the biggest sporting spectacle in the world.
Not only did Macron support India’s bid to host the Games, but also gave a warning. “First of all, I’m strong believer in your country and the future of your country and what you can build and your capacity to organize such events,” the French President told Jio Cinema.

“I think this is a fierce competition. First, you should not underestimate the fact and I do remember seven years ago when I went to Lausanne, we did compete with the US at that time, Los Angeles. And we found this agreement and at the end, it was and it is still a great cooperation. So, competing in itself is clearly a great preparation,” he added.
During his previous visit to India, Macron had assured infrastructural support for the athletes for training. For the unknown, Macron is the first foreign leader to lend support India in its bid to host to Summer Olympics and Paralympics.
“Second, we did work and we are working together with India,” Macron said. “We will be delighted to build stronger cooperation on sports…” “We will definitely support your intention to organise the Olympic Games in India in the future,” Macron had said at a banquet hosted by Indian President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan earlier this year.
