Garage fire sparks explosions at East Hills home, in Sydney’s southwest

A home in Sydney’s southwest has exploded, sparked by a fire in the garage.

Emergency services were called to East Hills about 3.15pm on Monday.

Six trucks and 24 firefighters responded to the initial callout at the villa complex on Maclaurin Ave, Fire and Rescue NSW said.

The garage exploded as crews approached the home, completely destroying it and damaging neighbouring homes.

Firefighters were uninjured in the blast and were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.

Images from the 7NEWS helicopter show smoke rising from the debris of the garage, with rubble strewn across the property.

Residents reported hearing several loud bangs.

There are no reports of injuries.
