Limited Run Games has announced plans to bring PSOne era platform game GEX to modern consoles. In a surprise reveal, Limited Run confirmed that GEX, GEX 2: Enter the Gecko, and GEX 3: Deep Cover Gecko will be coming to “modern systems”. While there’s no word on an exact release date, expect the GEX trilogy to be available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch within the next year or so.
Limited Run will develop the games using its Carbon Engine tool, which is said to “revitalise retro releases”.
The original GEX is a side-scrolling platformer that made its debut all the way back in 1995.
The development team switched things up for the sequels, which are 3D platformers more akin to what you’d see on the PSOne.
Limited Run explains more: “Tail time is imminent. Through the science of the Carbon Engine, Gex fans will be able to revisit Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko on modern systems for the first time!
“Don’t touch that dial! Limited Run will have more news to share about the Gex Trilogy later!”
The GEX Trilogy was announced alongside a host of additional titles, including Clock Tower, a physical version of Castlevania Advance Collection, and lots more. You can see the entire list below.
