“M & D just delivered their follow-up single,” Criss wrote on Instagram.
“Brother Laszlo Criss, 6/3/24.
“Out now … and yes his first name is Brother.”
Criss shared a cute photo of Brother wearing reflective sunglasses.
But many of the actor’s fans were confused and surprised by the unusual name choice, and didn’t hold back in saying so.
“If you have to clarify that it is his name, maybe it shouldn’t be his name,” one follower wrote in the comments section.
“If you have to explain their name is ‘Brother’, then a different name should be picked,” agreed another.
“I feel so bad for this child,” another stated bluntly.
“I would change it as soon as I could.”
“The future girlfriend/boyfriend is gonna be calling him brother😭,” noted one follower.
“What the hell is up with celebs choosing such ridiculous names?” wondered another.
Others didn’t feel the need to remark on the choice of name, including some former Glee co-stars.
“Yeeeeesssss! So happy for your growing Family!! Love you all!” wrote Matthew Morrison, who played Will Schuester on the show.
“Congratulations!” added fellow co-star Kevin McHale, who played Artie Abrams.
“That baby is already cooler than I’ll ever be,” said one fan.
But it seemed that, on the whole, Criss’s fans were deeply unimpressed.
“Darren … I adore you … But you just doomed your kid to mockery for the rest of his life,” one person stated.
“Darren my love, my world, my pookie bookie bear … you did not just name your child BROTHER?” joked another.
“WTF is that name,” grumbled one fan.
“It’s going to lead to so much confusion in his life. Poor kid.
“Imagine applying for a visa and being rejected like, you were supposed to state your name and not your brother’s.
“How was this approved?”
Brother is the couple’s second child.
Their first, a daughter who is now two years old, was named Bluesy Belle.
The couple also used musical references when announcing they were expecting their first child.
“We’ve been making music for years,” Criss wrote at the time.
“But this time we made a BEAT.
“The ultimate collab, droppin’ Spring 2022.”
When Bluesy was born, the musical references kept coming.
“M&D made some sweet music,” the couple announced when their baby girl was born.
“Bluesy Belle Criss 4/11/22. Out now.”
Now, with two children named Bluesy and Brother, one fan wondered if the couple might not be fans of a particular 1980s hit movie.
“Did you name your kids after The Blues Brothers, just in a super literal way?” the fan wrote.
