Google has released the release of Android 15 Developers Preview 1 (DP1) – the first of the two previews – providing a sneak peek into the key changes and improvements that are coming in the next major release of the OS. Apart from this, the company has also announced the release schedule for the Developer Preview and upcoming Beta of the world’s most popular mobile operating system.
Two Developers Previews, next coming in March
Developer Preview 1 (February): This preview suggests early baseline build focused on developer feedback, with new features, APIs, and behaviour changes, reports 9to5google.
Developer Preview 2 (March): Incremental update with additional features.
Notably, this is the first developer preview that will be available for Pixel 6 and later, which essentially means that the Android 15 will only be available for Google Pixel smartphones that are powered by Google Tensor SoCs.
Android 15 Beta starts in April
The Android 15 Beta will start in April – like it did last year. Incidentally, this is a month before Google’s annual developers conference – Google I/O – which usually takes place in the first week of May. At this event, Google launches consumer-facing features and announces that it is working on.
Platform Stability with “final SDK/NDK APIs and also final internal APIs and app-facing system behaviours” is coming in Beta 3; “You’ll have several months before the official release to do your final testing.”
