Google Pixel: Google working on Pixel-exclusive AI assistant: Here’s what it may be called

Despite being powered by Android OS, Pixel phones are a bit different from other smartphones. Google maintains this difference by adopting a unique strategy by offering features, such as dropping quarterly Pixel Feature Drop, and releasing monthly security updates as well as milestone updates before any other OEM. As per a new report, the company is working on another such feature to increase this ‘gap’.
According to The Information (via 9to5google), Google is planning to incorporate the power of Gemini AI model into “an AI assistant called Pixie that will be exclusive to its Pixel devices.” This assistant is said to be different from the Google Assistant that we see today on almost all Android-powered devices in the wild.
How it will be different
It also notes that ‘Pixie’ will use Gmail, Maps and other “data from Google products” on the phone to offer a more different experience by evolving “into a far more personalised version of the Google Assistant.”
The report comes a few days after Google announced that it is integrating the power of AI via Gemini Nano into Pixel 8 Pro. The model will bring a Summarise feature in the Recorder app and Smart Reply to Gboard.
Pixie may debut on Pixel 9 series
It is also reported that Pixie may debut with the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro, and may be able to undertake tasks that Google Assistant cannot. This Pixel-exclusivity can be a push to consumers to adopt a Pixel over a competitor brand running Android.
Google is already incorporating Tensor processors in its smartphones that are specially designed to take up AI tasks and run machine learning models on-device. The report also says that Google also wants to bring those AI features to “its lower-end phones and devices like its watch.”
