Recently, MoRTH has conducted a review on the provision of signages, according to relevant Indian Road Congress (IRC) codes and guidelines. The new guidelines are made to offer enhanced readability and visibility of road signages. Using large lettering, symbols, and short legends for quick comprehension of drivers, ensuring crucial information is readily visible, even in adverse weather conditions.
According to MorTH, pictorial representations will be accompanied by a multilingual approach to convey essential messages effectively, thus catering to a diverse group of road users, including those with limited literacy.

These new guidelines also put special emphasis on promoting better lane discipline via strategic positioning with intuitive guidance to drivers and minimizing traffic congestion. These guidelines will be implemented in a phased manner on all upcoming Nationa; Highways, Expressways, and greenfield corridors. Additionally, Highways experiencing high traffic volume, with more than 20,000 Passenger Car Units (PCUs), will be prioritized for the implementation of the new road signages.
With such practices, MoRTH said that it aims to provide a safe travel experience for all commuters, further advancing toward accident-free roads.
