Gpt: OpenAI delays GPT Store launch to early 2024: Here’s what happened

Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence startup OpenAI held its first ever Devday developer conference in November. At this event, the company announced the GPT 4 model’s ability to create custom chatbots and also revealed its plans to roll out a GPT store. The GPT store will be a marketplace where users of OpenAI’s GPT builders can sell and share the GPTsthey’ve built. Now, the company has confirmed that the launch of the GPT store has been delayed to early 2024.
In an email that OpenAI has sent to people who signed up for its GPT Builder, (seen by the Verge) the company announced the availability of the GPT store will be delayed “until next year.”
Why OpenAI has delayed the GPT Store
In the email, OpenAI said that “unexpected things” that have been keeping the company “busy” has pushed back the GPT store rollout. The company noted that it had planned to release the store in December. Initially, at its developer conference in November, OpenAI said the store would launch it later that month. However, that didn’t happen and the launch has been further delayed.
The ChatGPT maker noted that it’s continuing to “make improvements” to GPTs based on customer feedback. OpenAI also mentioned that while it’s still working on the store, people should expect some updates to the viral ChatGPT chatbot. The development team also announced that it has upgraded some functionalities of the custom GPT platform.

The GPTs are early versions of AI assistants that can perform real-world tasks like booking flights on behalf of a user. During the November event, the company also announced that it would pay people who’ve made their own GPTs an unspecified amount based on how much their creation is used.

The company went through a chaotic phase over the past few weeks. Last month, the company’s board sacked its CEO Sam Altman. After almost five days of drama, OpenAI reinstated Altman as the CEO of the company.
