‘Had he got proper info … ‘: Devendra Fadnavis on Rahul Gandhi’s ‘two Indias’ video after Pune crash | India News

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for ‘politicising‘ the recent car accident in Pune involving a teenage driver. The incident, which occurred on Sunday in Kalyani Nagar, resulted in the deaths of two individuals.
Fadnavis, who is also in charge of the home portfolio, responded to Gandhi’s video message by defending the actions of the Pune police. He clarified that the decision to grant bail to the accused teenager was made by the juvenile court and that the Pune police had challenged this decision in a higher court.
“Pune police have also challenged it in the higher court. Politicising an accident does not behove Rahul Gandhi. It is not right to see everything through the prism of votes. Had he obtained information properly, Gandhi would not have made such a comment,” Fadnavis said.
“Pune police acted in the right way. But the decision (to grant bail to the boy who was allegedly driving the high-end car) was taken by the juvenile court,” he added.
On Tuesday, Rahul had alleged that the BJP government is creating ‘two Indias’ as there was a ‘different justice’ for the rich saying, “If an ordinary truck or cab driver were to cause such an accident, he would be jailed for years, but there was different justice for the son of a rich man, and Congress wanted to change this system”.
Two young software engineers died on Sunday after a Porsche Taycan car, driven by a prominent builder’s 17-year-old son, hit their motorcycle from behind at around 2.30am in Pune. The car was being driven at 160kmph at the time of the crash. The cops identified the deceased as Aneesh Awadhia (24) and Ashwini Koshta (24), both computer science engineering graduates who hailed from Madhya Pradesh, and studied at an engineering college in Pune before taking up jobs with a software company.
The crash, the deaths, the swift release of the accused, the arrest of his father, the action against the pubs and the subsequent political slugfest look like a chain reaction that has gripped the nation.
